Noise Gate

Got unwanted noise or hum in your rig? Try a noise gate! Comparable to a compressor, noise gate's remove unwanted noise by rasing the noise floor and only allowing signal louder than a set threshold through i.e. when you play the gate opens, when you stop playing the gate closes. Noise gates work best when you've exhausted all other measures to remove noise e.g. isolated power supplies, quality leads and correct gain staging.
