Quite a reasonable guitar
By: Anonymous on 3 September 2024I’ll admit that I’m probably not the usual Enya Nova buyer. I bought the AcousticPlus purely as a portable backup to my Fender Acoustasonic Tele. (I’m primarily a bassist, but do need to play acoustic guitar sometimes.) As such, I don’t need the in-built effects etc. — for me, this is just a lightweight emergency stand-in in case my main guitar is suddenly u/s. My thoughts, for what they’re worth ….. BUILD: The carbon fibre construction makes for a robust instrument, less likely to be affected by temperature and humidity variation. Tuning seems fairly stable, probably for the same reason. Frets have no rough edges. ACCESSORIES: Padded gig bag (small, and average), spare set of replacement strings (see below), charging cable, instrument cable (surprisingly better than average), nice cleaning cloth, truss rod wrench, guitar strap (functional, but el cheapo). SET-UP: Very good — action was low enough to be quite usable, and intonation (as measured by a Peterson Strobostomp and a Sonic Research ST-200) was close enough to spot-on — very slightly out on a couple of strings, but you probably wouldn’t improve on it without swapping in a compensated saddle. FINISH: Probably the least impressive aspect — I had assumed that the white colour was kinda baked in to the carbon fibre, but it seems that the finish is painted on(?). Right out of the box, there were three small scratches on the front up near the neck. Tried gently cleaning it, but these are scratches, not dirty marks. Not hugely noticeable, I admit, but still disappointing. These things should, I suggest, be checked prior to shipping, because it’s impossible to prove you didn’t scratch it yourself after it arrives. When I feel brave enough, I’m looking to touch it up with white paint. STRINGS: I believe the fitted strings (and the supplied spares) are D’Addario EXP16s (12-53); I may swap these out for D’Addario 11-52s on the first string change. SOUND: By itself (no amplification), the Enya is adequate — obviously doesn’t have the projection of a full-blown acoustic, but it doesn’t claim to do that anyway. As I said above, the additional in-built settings (Reverb (Blue), Delay (Light Blue), Fusion (Purple)), allied with the phone app, are, for me, a bit of a gimmick, and I probably wouldn’t use them in real life, preferring to stick to the plain Acoustic setting (Green) and just run it through a decent acoustic amp, using a good EQ (I have a 10-band Boss EQ-200, so I’m able to dial in quite a nice acoustic sound.) ….. Oh, and one final observation — if, like me, you prefer to immediately fit Schaller-type straplocks and a decent strap to your new guitars, just note that that’s a challenge with the Enya. Quite understandably, because of the carbon-fibre build, the strap pins as shipped are bolted on rather than screwed in. If you attempt to remove the pins and replace them with an alternative, the bolts will come off inside the guitar, and you’ll have a nightmare job replacing them (particularly the one at the bridge end!). ….. Overall, quite a good guitar. I’d say 4 stars. (Would have been 4-and-a-half without those scratches). Yes, I’m glad I bought the Enya, and consider it worth the $$$.

By: Trish on 9 March 2023Bought a Enya nova go for my husband as a sofa/travel guitar. He really likes the feel of it and says it sounds very good considering it is thin and small bodied. Although he owns some expensive ukes and guitars he really likes the Enya brand as they are easy to travel with. A good buy.
