The AH-218SUB from SWAMP is a horn loaded subwoofer enclosure with dual 18"speakers featuring remarkable 5"inch voice coils and will provide a punchy, extended low end signal with a continuous power rating of 1200W. Ideal for use at outdoor events and large indoor concerts featuring either DJ's or rock bands, this subwoofer will deliver clear, high SPL without distortion. The AH-218SUB can be matched with a high-mid speakers such as SWAMP's DE-TF-1502, to complete the PA system as required. Various configurations are possible, and simply adding extra sub's and mid-high speakers will increase the ability to produce the volume and coverage to suit the application.

SWAMP Passive AH Series PA Speakers
The AH speaker series is designed for large room and outdoor (long throw) applications where the PA is required to provide audio in large spaces. This series is produced for use within the sound event, hire and installation industry, as a more cost effective but comparable quality solution to other high power passive speaker lines from well known brands. Power from a Power Amplifier / Audio Receiver
Being a 'passive' speaker, the AH-218SUB will require a 'power amplifier' to provide the audio signal and the power required to drive the subwoofer. Power amps are either sold as standalone units, or may be included as part of a mixing desks or audio receiver (home theatre). For the AH-218SUB, it is recommend that a standalone power amplifier with a power output between 1200W - 2400W @ 4 ohms be considered. Active or Passive?
Although active powered speakers have become increasingly popular in recent times due to their ease of use and ever falling prices, passive systems do still have their advantages. Firstly the components used to build power amplifiers for speakers are often compromised by the lack of space available and cost cutting by brands attempting to secure lower prices and more market share. An external amplifier generally has a larger transformer and often uses superior quality transistors than found in most powered speakers.

The result being that external power amplifiers generally have more 'headroom' and can deliver a cleaner sound at high power levels over greater periods with a much lower risk of peaking and overheating problems. Additionally, when using external power amplifiers , it is not the end of the show if one amp channel fails, as is the case with active speakers. You have options to reconfigure your system side of stage by linking speakers in series to open a channel and enable the show to proceed.
