Working from Home In the Age of COVID-19
In the Age of COVID-19 working from home has become the norm and media interviews from the lounge-room are now commonplace. For a most of us, our smartphone headsets serve fine when talking one on one, but in conference calls and media interviews audio quality does become more important.
Improve the Quality of your Media Interviews using Skype
The best way to Improve the quality of your Skype interviews and conference calls is to use a condenser type lavalier / lapel mic. This the same type of microphone used in broadcast studios and on film sets. The Comica V05 is a perfect solution and it's extra features including headphone output, make it superior over a standard lavalier mic.
- the V05 works on any device PC/MAC/PHONE. The Camera/Phone switch basically toggles between TRRS/TRS output, so anything with a 3.5mm size input works. New phones, may would just need a USB-C or Lightning to 3.5mm converter which we stock.
- use your smartphone headphones/headset, just as 'headphones' so you can hear audio/questions etc. You either plug into 3.5mm headphone output on the V05 if input is TRRS, otherwise you must be a on an older laptop (aka. Camera setting) and you will need to plug into 3.5mm headphone output you must have on your laptop.
- mic gain control is on the side, handy for being able to tweak your volume easily when you are getting to go live for an interview.
- tie clip included so you can get the mic in the ideal position, for good clarity, and no distortion. As you may have seen on the news, on the front/top of the shirt is best.
Lavalier/Lapel Mics for Direct Smartphone Connection
We also stock cheaper lavalier condenser mics that plug directly into phones and laptops, but any TRRS devices (phones/new laptops) will have the result of output for headphones. We have a simple TRRS splitter that can solve this, but some can just use your devices speaker instead.
Condenser type lavalier mics can be a little difficult to shop for due to the different jacks, and requirements for headphones etc. We found the V05 is ideal -- it actually covers all bases so you don't really have to worry about figuring it out all.
