Focusrite Scarlett Interfaces come to SWAMP

Some of us have been around enough to remember the stellar mic preamps that Focusrite were very well known for nearly 30 years ago. These are still found in many high-end recording studios around the world. The Red series has always been at the top of the class, and even the Green series of mic pres were found to be excellent avenues for project studios to obtain some high-end technology on a lower budget. For many of us, it was our first foray into Focusrite products.

Focusrite is now a global music and audio products group, making proprietary hardware and software facilitating the quality production of recorded and live sound. The group, which now includes brands Novation, and Amplify, has been producing audio interfaces which are some of the highest selling in the world. These impressive figures aren’t surprising,, considering the state-of-the-art design of the mic preamps, user friendly drivers, and the lowest latency available,  all available in various form factors for project home studios and top end facilities alike.

Scarlett 2nd Generation USB Interfaces

Compact Interfaces
The Scarlett USB range begins with the Solo, a compact interface ideal for guitar players and singer-songwriters wanting an easy way to make studio quality recordings at home. The next model in the range, the 2i2, is now the best selling USB audio interface in the world. A 2-in, 2-out interface, it provides two high quality mic preamps with combi mic/instrument/line XLR inputs with 48v phantom power.

Expanded I/O
The next models in the Scarlett range, the 2i4, 6i6  18i8 and the 18i20, also add MIDI In and Out, a necessary inclusion for those of us that  need to record MIDI data from external MIDI instruments. Synthesizers, drum machines and MIDI controllers can be connected with ease with these models. The larger 18i8 and 18i20 interfaces also introduce digital I/O options such as ADAT and S/PDIF as well. Included Software
The Scarlett range has an excellent inclusion of software packages. At a minimum, you will find Ableton Live Lite, ProTools First, 2GB of Loopmasters Samples, Softube 'Time & Tone' Plug-in Bundle and Focusrite Red 2 & 3 Plug-in Suite, all of which are fabulous software resources to expand your creative  and production capabilities.

Recording Packages
For those who would like a whole recording solution, i.e. the whole signal chain from mic to hard disk, Focusrite offers a complete recording studio in a box - the Scarlett Solo Studio. This package contains the Scarlett Solo interface, together with the dedicated Focusrite HP60 headphones, and the Scarlett CM25 large diaphragm condenser microphone, together with a 3m XLR cable.
