The cab is often a neglected part of the signal chain, but it can have a big impact on tone. It is the component that actually makes the sound after all! Guitar speakers and speaker cabinets come in many shapes and sizes. The most common speakers sizes are 12 inch and 10 inch, but bottom end filled 15 inch all the way down to 6 inch in small practice amps can be found too. Popular configurations are 1 x 12", 2 x 12"", 4 x 12" and 2 x 10" and 4 x 10", but there are many unique and ineresting sounding other combos out there.
The brand of the speaker and the material of the magnet, ceramic, alnico or modern neodymium and the composition of the cone also affect the tone. We stock cabinets with speakers including the Celestion Vintage 30 and Jenson PQ and CQ speakers. If there weren't enough variables already, speakers sound and perform differently depending on which amp head you have them paired with!
While picking a speaker cabinet may seem a daunting task, it's really just about playing a lot of guitar and listening, and that isn't so bad!
