ATM450 Cardioid Condenser Side Address Instrument Microphone
This excellent microphone is a small diaphragm condenser mic with a side address pencil design, a low end bass filter, and a -10dB pad switch, which is useful for close miking of loud sound sources. The design form factor makes this mic an ideal one for tight placement options, especially keeping out of the way from the performer. The ATM450 is ideal for close drum miking, either as overheads, or on individual parts. With a frequency response from 40Hz to 20kHz, the ATM450 is ideal for high sound pressure levels, and sound pickup from amplified acoustic instruments. It ships with a dedicated mic clip, a windsock, and a protective pouch.
Cardioid Polar Pattern
This polar pattern is ideal for live and studio use of acoustic instruments and drums and percussion. The mic's pick up range is 180 degrees in front of the microphone. The cardioid polar pattern of the microphone is more sensitive to sound originating directly in front of the element, making it useful in controlling feedback, reducing pickup of unwanted sounds and providing isolation between performers. Cardioid mics are used for a very high percentage of microphone applications
Features:
- Unique side-address stick design maximizes placement options with minimal obstructions
- Uncompromising sound quality for overheads, percussion, acoustic guitar, strings and other acoustic instruments
- Integral 80Hz HPF switch and 10dB pad
- Durable performance for professional applications
- Cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of desired sound source
- Rugged, all-metal design and construction for years of trouble-free use
- Includes isolation clamp for shock protection, secure mounting and easy positioning

Excellent lifting Mic
By: Brian on 1 June 2021I came across this Mic at an 'upmarket' classical performance I did for a 10 person dinner party. I liked its sound so much I bought one from Japan on my travels and have used it for 5 years, I'm glad I was able to find a new second copy in Australia now. This Mic is a bit of a hidden jem. Plus it is very cute to look at ;) It has a very wide and flat response to the human ear with an exciting yet balanced and controlled character throughout most of the sound spectrum of the guitar. There is a slight pinch in the treble range but that seems to work very well for guitar and string instruments and is a little bit Neumann-esque. I also have the AT4081 ribbon which I use live and for recording and these mics pair well together for live use. I now have Rode M3, 2 x ATM450 and a AT4081. I'm very happy with my set.
